well THAT was a hackjob piece of video amibselsng by NBC, although I am frustrated by the signs they selected ..I wish people would not have resorted to that kind of imagery. What REALLY sucks is they INTENTIONALLY left out . I wonder why?Bob, I certainly hope you someday have a PRIME opportunity to SPELL OUT the ACTUAL history of civil rights to some mainstream outlet because, these days, I’m SICK TO DEATH of being generalized as a racist BECAUSE I’m a Republican. I swear..the damn media REALLY can be a bully under the guise of reporting the news . This is cruel and unusual mental punishment..

Chori,
I’m not really sure which NBC piece you are so passionately referring to but I do know your frustration at the ease at which information is reported to only make one side’s point. I remember when news was the report of actual facts and not the editorializing of 24/7 cable networks. I don’t believe that Republicans are racists but I do believe that the Tea Party has that reputation and that the Republican Party has been infiltrated with and adopted it.I think theBullying is done by bothsides of the media.

Readers,

Please research Rick Santorum for his political views.

He has been endorsed by the very, very, very right wing conservative group,The Social/Christian Conservative conclave, as their anti- Romney choice.

They are the group leading the family/social values movement a.k.a. The Tea Party.

Read the article in the Washington Times “Social Conservatives Endorse Rick Santorum” to see further evidence of RACIAL SUPERIORITY, alive and well in America.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they’re out of office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this
contract with Congressmen/women.

Congressmen/women made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their
term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Don’t you think it’s time?

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

If you agree with the above, pass it on. If not, just delete.

But, people have hit me with racial slurs all the time. [Though getting called the ‘N’ word when I was young was a bit confusing].Gist of it is, if people want to be racist they don’t need logic, after all, if they were logical they wouldnt’ be racist in the first place. We’re all members of the Human Race. [And I think I’m coming somewhere near last in the Human Race! Stupid race anyway!!!]

During the holiday season we are bombarded with images of wealth and status. A few of these being:

Black American Express Card
Black Steinway Grand Piano
Little Black Dress
Black Tie Affair
Black Limousine
Black Pearls
All of these items are held in high esteem and value and yet a black person – a human being – worth more than any of these items is, in many cases, held in low esteem and low value.
Are we not told in the song that all are precious in God’s sight? Why do we allow this injustice to continue? What part of ALL do people not understand? What part of the Declaration of Independence, that all men (and women) are created equal, do people not understand? This has been on my mind lately.

Black Racism

I realize that this whole topic is one that is sensitive to me as I am having difficulty writing/talking about it. I have been raised/socialized within my community, NOT TO. (dirty laundry)

There is an occurrence in the Black community that is both familiar and unpleasant for Black women. It is the absence of Black men, of value. Historically the white woman has been taboo for Black men when a “whistle” could result in a beating or a hanging. Black women were, by necessity, the center of almost every Black man’s world. In reality, however, the “whiter” the Black woman appeared; color, hair, etc. the more prized she was by Black men, as she, at least, approximated the Black man’s taboo.

In the 21st century white women are prized, as trophies. They represent “success” for Black men. The companionship of a white woman represents the Black man’s power and prestige. He too can now possess what was taboo. The one exception to this appears to be (in general) in the Hip Hop world of affluent music artists still “keeping it real” with Sisters.

Black women generally don’t quite seem to have this same need once they become successful, although certainly some do. Black women have never had white men presented to them as taboo with consequences for their attraction. Rather, historically white men were feared by Black women as predators that could and would “take” a Black woman, without consequences.

I watched the spectacle of Tiger Woods, married to the whitest looking woman I have ever seen as all of his mistresses appeared, and all were white.

I observe that the Black star players of the NBA and the NFL are, by majority, married to white women.

I have checked out the Black actorson both the small and large screen and it seems that they too are, by majority, married to white women. Sometimes it is their second wife once they are no longer struggling and have become successful, in the business.

How many more incidences can you name?

(I bet that all the women that are suing Herman Cain for Sexual abuse are white women. He became successful and he “deserved one,” in his mind.)

Is this a case of Black Racism “Internalized?”

Yes!

Why? It is Black Racism internalized because what is “good” and demonstrates “success,” is what is “white.”

We value, idolize and covet what is unlike ourselves. We don’t value, idolize, covet . . . like ourselves.

November 1, 2011 Physical Racism Comments

During the month of October we examined and reviewed the incidents and effects of Physical Racism. In November we will be discussing Black on Black Racism and it gets PERSONAL. To forecast that upcoming discussion that begins this Friday I will make a few comments today on one of our biggest offenders, Herman Cain.

Herman Cain has admonished the whole African American public as being “brainwashed.” He, however, has been given “the opportunity” and seen “the light” as to which set of political philosophies to believe in and follow suggesting that other African Americans who do not are obviously too flawed to do so. His admonishment of the entire African American community is laughable as now he boldly has “become Black” when necessary, and is playing “the race card.” With the current accusations of Sexual Harassment, in the 1990’s, impeding his candidacy he now accuses the media of “Electronic Lynching” stating that he has a target drawn on him. How Black of him, suddenly! I would like to suggest that even though this revelation was made public by POLITICO, a liberal source, that the information was possibly leaked to them by a Republican competitor or source. I can’t believe that any Democratic source would want to eliminate Herman Cain as a Republican candidate SO SOON. He alone was causing the other candidates to scurry to bolster their own arguments. Let’s see what happens now to Mr. Cain. He will be prominently discussed during our look at Black on Black Racism.

Think About It!

Physical Racism Comments, October 26, 2011

No comments for our Discussion and Solutions page were submitted this week. I guess Physical Racism is a difficult topic to comment on. It is obvious. It is damaging. It harms. It continues.

Friday’s blog post will be a brief review of the James Byrd case with the twist/analogy of how we, Black people, are currently being pulled behind the pickup truck, also losing our limbs and life through the “politics” of America. The Republican Party candidate debates are strategically outlining the vehicles, the designated drivers and the tools (laws) they’ll use to literally and figuratively drag us to our death. Listen in!

Physical Racism October 19, 2011

This week I can’t seem to get “set on fire” about anything to comment on with this topic, Physical Racism. I guess it speaks easily and well for itself, self- evident.

What does come to mind, in a bit of a different vain, is that in my lifetime because of racism we were physically separated, by law, custom and practice. We were “segregated” physically from other religious groups and ethnicities. i.e., white, Chinese, Jewish, Polish, Irish, etc., in Chicago. We lived in different neighborhoods with the threat of harm if we crossed “the line.” We attended different schools with the threat of harm if we crossed “the line.” We only passed each other while shopping downtown, going to the amusement park and working and did so cautiously with the threat of harm if we crossed “the line.” The GANGS that enforced our street boundaries then were the city council, the police department and the mayor’s office.

We were bullied into “knowing our place.” We were bullied into behaving, and speaking to the majority population in a “certain” and demeaning manner. We may no longer be “segregated” by law but I suggest that we are still “segregated” to a large degree by custom and practice.

I further suggest that we are becoming more and more segregated by economics. We are being bullied by the banks, the insurance companies, the mortgage companies and all the many other corporations. We are redlined for economic discrimination. Our communities are redlined for economic discrimination. Our groceries, gas, mortgage interest rates, auto interest rates, and other essentials seem to always cost more in our communities, than others. We are being threatened with economic terror. Our physical well-being is being covertly threatened by the corporations. We are and have been a part of the 99% long before the S . . . hit everyone else.

The Koch Brothers are one corporation that is investing its funds into the elimination of Barack Obama as our President who supports imposing regulations on corporations. They are infamous in their support of the Tea Party principle of “getting our country back” which I interrupt as their glorious 1950’s mentality as exhibited in the movie “The Help.” You may want to boycott their products as a means of Daring to Be Heard. ( A solution) i.e.: Industry/Georgia-Pacific Products, Angel Soft toilet paper, Brawny paper towels, Dixie plates, bowls, napkins and cups, Mardi Gras napkins and towels, Quilted Northern toilet paper, Soft and Gentle toilet paper, Sparkle napkins, Vanity fair napkins, Zee napkins.

We’ve done this before. Dare to Be Heard Again. Pass This Along. BOYCOTT your oppressor.

Physical Racism Comments 10/12

This week I would just like to thank the readers that submitted comments. It’s nice to hear that my words are heard and may remind, educate and inspire someone else to say and do something about our topic, racism in America. Everyone please take the time to read them.

Cosmic Divine I especially appreciate the thought and concern that went into your words for “Solutions” to the issues of Americans of African descent. We are looking for “Solutions” on this blog that we can all take away and apply in our daily lives. Thank you. I do however have to comment on/respond to one concern and suggestion that you made, with a smile. As I look at my brothers and sisters who are surviving on assistance from the US government I too am dismayed, wanting more for them. But I must shake my head as I realize that they have found a way to get the reparations we all are entitled to for the 300 plus years of labor our ancestors provided this country without compensation. That uncompensated labor greatly contributed to this country’s wealth and not our own. WE have yet to receive an apology and/or reparations unlike the Jewish and Japanese populations who were victims of governmental degradation and imprisonment for a far lesser term.

Please keep the comments coming!

American’s of African origin have an obligation to train their children to become citizens who are involved in America’s social, political, and economic systems. They must demand education making it mandatory that their children attend school to learn math, science, computers, and business skills. It’s mandatory for them to change their behavior to become independent of government welfare to create their own businesses, corporations, and communities. It is also essential that they train their youth to run for local, state, and federal offices in government. Ultimately, they have an obligation to return to Africa to obtain their citizenship to help bring business there because the Europeans, Chinese, and American businesses are pillaging Africa for its abundance in natural resources, making the African people the poorest in the world. Wisdom and money solves all problems.

Straight ahead!

Racial Profiling

I would like to add to my “concept” of racial profiling that it is a covert and overt form of bullying. With all the recent incidents of bullying reported in the press and those unreported in schools and communities it has occurred to me that for the African American community racial profiling is an act of bullying.

I believe that the ability to identify a population through negative stereotypes and thus determine your behavior authorized by such to respond to them in a negative way is an act of bullying.

Research defines bullying as tormenting, persecuting, and intimidating. It defines a bully as a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually, badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people with less power. American institutions, as well as individuals, have and do act as bullies through their stereotypical practice of racially profiling African American people and communities with their services. It cost more for food and gas “In the Community.” It cost more for auto insurance and home insurance “In the Community.” It may take a longer time for response by the police, fire department, and cabs “In the Community.” This is tormenting, badgering and intimidating the community into a submissive role as to its rights and expectation of such.

Just some thought I have. What about you? Anything you want to add? Please do so at the bottom of this page where Comments can be submitted.

Racial Profiling: Another Approach/Perspective

I have listened to the racists and homophobic rants of some of the self-identified local and national Tea Party candidates. I will not list names and I do not accuse the entire membership of such beliefs but those that do hold these beliefs all do appear to affiliate themselves with the Tea Party movement. My evaluation of their views is that they want to return this country to what they “interpret” the Constitution of the United States as decreeing as the law and spirit of America.

I have somehow missed how these Tea Party members are able to interpret the Constitution, its amendments and the Bill of Rights to be applicable to only a designated population. The Tea party has proposed a Marriage Vow pledge for its candidates to endorse that stipulates marriage only between a man and a woman. The Tea party has proposed the elimination of public education. The Tea party has championed the elimination of Social Security and Medicare benefits for the elderly. The Tea Party wants to restore the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy to the military and the Tea Party wants to restore mandatory “Christian” (only) prayer in schools, to name a few.

The Tea Party wants the Constitution of the United States to be “interpreted” (Racially Profiled) to singularly support the beliefs, needs and resources of straight, young, white, wealthy and Christian Americans.

Racial Profiling

This week’s comments are regarding the impending execution of Troy Davis, a Black man accused of the 1989 murder of a Savannah, Georgia white police officer. I am really saddened about his approaching execution scheduled for September 21, 2011.

Troy Davis’ case is one of unusual and yet usual and common circumstances for a Black man in America. He was accused by nine eye witnesses. Seven of the witnesses have since recanted their testimonies with each citing police intimidation with the threat of imprisonment as cause for their initial testimony. Another suspect present at the scene of the original crime has confessed to the crime before witnesses. No physical evidence linking Troy Davis to the crime scene exists, no DNA evidence, and the murder weapon has never been found. Troy Davis has always asserted his innocence. He is, however, a Black man in America accused of killing a white man in America. What do you think?

Please Google Troy Davis and read an account of his case on Wikipedia and/or Google NAACP for additional information.

This week I want to comment on the effects of racial profiling from personal experiences. I suggest in these two pieces that it happens to all African Americans because they are Black, not because they are engaged in anything suspicious.

1.) My son was stopped by the police a block from our home “suspected” to be driving a stolen car. It was My car that he had permission to drive. Once he showed proof of a driver’s license and registration the policeman started to walk away as another police car drove up. When the officer was questioned as to what was wrong and he had replied to the other officer that there was “nothing wrong” the other officer parked and asked my son to get out of the car and, without cause, handcuffed him as he was told to sit on the curb while the two officers searched MY car. Disappointed with their search they un-cuffed my son and “allowed“ him to drive off. He received no ticket/citation as he had committed no crime other than “Driving while Black.”

He was sixteen years old, a block from our middle class home in our middle class neighborhood, driving the speed limit. He has never trusted the police since. I stopped contributing to any and all police fundraisers and did so with a report of this incident enclosed in their self- addressed and stamped reply envelopes.

2.) Friends that live in another middle class neighborhood have reported their sons as being “detained” outside their very homes as they drive the family car home. They are “suspected“ of drug and weapons possession because they drive their parents’ Escalades, BMW’s and SUV’s. Their parents are doctors, lawyers and Indian chiefs, but THEY ARE BLACK and therefore profiled by the stereotype even within their own well known neighborhood of affluent residents.

My SOLUTION to this rampant behavior occurring in my neighborhood was to form a neighborhood group who when seeing a “child” pulled over by the police would stop and ask the police if there was a problem. If so how could they help? Often they were doctors and lawyers, and in my neighborhood, two judges. After less than six months of our vigilance over “our children” the harassment stopped.

Racial profiling is meant to humiliate, demean, and control,
physically and psychologically. DARE TO BE HEARD!

The film is a bit long but full of valuable messages and poignant meaning. It is well worth your time. It reminds us all of our responsibility to combat injustice based upon prejudice, prejudging and profiling. See it to the end and comment to me if you aren’t moved.

During the month of August we examined the topic The Realities of Racism. With the use of Michael Jackson and his family we were able to concretely show what the effects of racism can do to the individual it is directed at.

In other words, what it feels like, looks like, tastes like and smells like on a daily basis to the victimized of its insidious unrelenting attack.

Week one we examined the systematic attack on Michael Jackson’s persona by the media and the public that resulted in the deleterious effect it had of his physical, psychological, financial and emotional health.

Week two we demonstrated how those attacks affected how he perceived his hostile world and his militant and embattled response to it.

Week three we documented the media’s vicious attacks on his family.

Our final week we presented the continuing efforts of perpetuating racist’s sentiments on Michael Jackson through the ongoing speculation about the paternity of his children.

In September our blog will start to highlight the many ways racism is perpetuated, how it is done, and systematically so by individuals and institutions alike. Week one will begin with RACIAL PROFILING.

AS A PART OF THIS DISCUSSION FOR SOLUTIONS I WRITE COMMENTARY.

THIS IS NOW MY “SOLUTION” TO RACISM.

I HOPE TO GET YOU INVOLVED IN FINDING YOUR AND OUR SOLUTIONS TO THIS:

The Realities of Racism

First, I would like to thank our reader Ifalade Ta’Shia Asanti for her very kind comment. We further appreciate her sharing our link with her many friends on Facebook because WE NEED AN ARMY. I had the opportunity to watch the Congressional Black Caucuses’ moderated panel discussion on C-SPAN. Representative John Lewis passionately reminded us of our obligation to be responsible for our own political welfare as we did so in the 60’s. He requested all of us to speak up and be heard demanding what we need and deserve, as we have always had to do. So Ifalade Ta’Shia Asanti, thank you and please pass the word along and ask your friend to do the same.

Dare to be heard.

Next, I must admit that it was difficult to decide what to comment on this week that would support and embellish our blog on The Realities of Racism. I considered talking about Rick Perry and decided not to. I considered talking about the movie “The Help” but decided not to. I did so in both instances because I hope they speak for themselves in terms of how the practices and polices espoused by both demonstrate the hurt that the reality of racism inflicts.

I do however have one comment on both:
Governor of Texas and Presidential candidate Rick Perry belongs to a group that “Wants their (1950’s) Country back” or in other words the political/ social/economic/religious environment that was portrayed and exposed in the film, “The Help.” Enough said!

I decided to stick with our examination of how racism impacted Michael Jackson. A reality of racism in America is the unfair reporting of media and therefore deleterious effect it has on the public and their resulting opinions of Colored, Negro, Afro-American, Black, and African American people. (The many polite designations I have had in my 64 years in America). Please take the time to read the article by Charles Thomson, “The Most Shameful Episode in Journalistic History,” to lend another perspective to the “racists” reporting of the trial that resulted in Michael’s legal acquittal by an all- white jury. You will recognize familiar names of “reporters” still applying their racists filter to their commentary even today.

We would like to thank our reader who complimented us on the anatomical approach to our investigation and reporting of racist’s behavior in America.

This month’s examination of what the realities of racism is for each of us is the close, anatomical, look at the concrete example of how racism impacted the career, personality, and finances of unquestionably the greatest entertainer of all time, Michael Jackson.

For more evidence on his treatment in the entertainment industry please read Christopher Hamilton’s article “Michael Jackson; What They Don’t Want You to Know.” Please Google Christopher Hamilton, Michael Jackson, What They Don’t Want You to Know, and go to the fourth entry by slumz.boxden. You will find this article informative as to the reasons (racists), need (racists), means (racists), and response (racists) to bringing Michael Jackson “down to size” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

and
under CONTROL.

ONCE AGAIN WE OFFER THIS BLOG AS AN EDUCATIONAL TOOL TO COMBAT RACISM WHEREVER AND WHENEVER ANY OF US WITNESSES IT.

WE EACH HAVE A RESPONSIBILTY TO CONFRONT IT
AND NOT JUST COMPLAIN.

DARE TO BE HEARD!

This week’s comments for our Discussion and Solutions page include referrals to two documents that I think you will enjoy and will help you better understand this month’s blog posts on the Realities of Racism.

The first document is referred to as The Willie Lynch Letter or Speech. It was written in the 1700’s to assist the owners of Enslaved Africans to better Control their “property” by giving the slave holders psychological methods to train the Enslaved Africans to Control themselves. http://www.loveforlife.com.au/node/3830 or Google: Willie Lynch letter and read the first entry at Final Call.

The second document suggests the psychological mind set of “White Privilege” in complete opposition to that of the African American mindset. Please see “White Knapsack” http://www.amptoons.com/blog/files/mcintosh.html

To all my friends and family who call, e-mail and speak their comments to me, I request again to PLEASE post them on our blog for everyone’s education and consideration. Thank you.

We all now know what racism looks like. We can recognize it. So now what? What’s next?

Last week I spoke with a dear old friend. She told me about the powerful experience she had at the annual NAACP convention held in Los Angeles. She told me about how the audience started the conference quiet, reserved, and helpless and hopeless as they were presented with the challenges of 2011. By the conclusion of the conference she and others were now feeling revitalized, ready to take action, and become part of the solution. I reminded her that was what I was hoping to generate with this blog, our recommending solutions and taking action. I laughingly told her about another friend of ours I had spoken to who felt that she didn’t have any power to make changes. I had told that friend, with LOVE, that I was glad her name wasn’t Rosa Parks or I would still be sitting on the back of the bus.

As our August Preview indicated this month’s blogs beginning Friday will feature Michael Jackson and his family as case studies in our discussion on The Realities of Racism. In keeping with that I am borrowing from Michael’s “Man in the Mirror” lyrics as a reminder and a PUSH to all of us to get involved.

“I’m Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It’s Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . .
I’m Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I’m Asking Him To Change
His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Want To Make The World
A Better Place
Take A Look At Yourself
Then Make A Change. . .”

I looked in that mirror and was told to write. I was told to share with others and ask them to also teach and to preach. I was told to be revitalized, to do this job, once again, and to stop just talking about it and to do something about it, to ACT.

Recognizing Racism introduced us to blatant/overt and covert messages and behaviors that can be labeled/identified as racists. We used concrete examples to “bring it home” to those of us unfamiliar with them and to get an Amen from those of us already tuned in.

This week a girlfriend of mine whose “racist’s antennae” were a bit tarnished realized in a conversation we were having about the blog that she indeed had just experienced a “racists” event. She described to me that a probably well- meaning older white man had approached her, an older black woman, in the grocery store to ask if Obama was going to sell us all down the river with the debt reconciliation package. At the time she was surprised, mildly disturbed and just said she didn’t know. She now realized that she had been put in the position, again, to speak for the whole Black race, to defend the whole race and to be expected to be privy to whatever the whole race and everyone in it thought and was doing. She suddenly got mad. I suggested to her that as a“Solution” for the next time, and surely there would be another, to ask the person what was Boehner planning to do and why he and they thought that way? Perhaps by tactfully embarrassing him he would “get it.” Our community has always been thought to be and treated as if monolithic in its opinions. We have historically been held responsible for the actions of any one of us. {Sidebar: I remember the incident at Columbine High School in Colorado. After that incident the world did not turn on all young white teenage boys as bad. It was considered an isolated event. “They” were troubled. We never saw their families. However, when one gang rivalry results in a death, the media paints all young Black boys as gang members (eligible for racial profiling) and visits their neighborhood and homes interviewing their neighbors.} SHE RECOGNIZED RACISM and got mad. I wished she had commented on the blog for us all to share. I guess I just did. We need Solutions and not just anger.

A comment we received on our Facebook page from a reader complimented the blog site by stating: “Brilliant, spot on, and unbiased analysis. This is what writing on issues and events should be.” We want to thank Deborah L. for her observations and kind words. We are trying to be just that. I would love to have more people comment about our blog as that is what helps the direction and scope of this discussion. Remember we need Solutions. Intelligent conversation is good but even better when accompanied by intelligent action.

I am having fun with this opportunity to teach and preach. I hope that you too are doing the same. We do this to change and improve the world we all have to live in, peacefully. I suggest that we can’t afford to become Denmark.

Our Recognizing Racism post began with twelve (12) simple concrete examples of racist’s behavior.

I want to say thank you to Francis and Chip for their timely comments and suggestions that I will use in this week’s page of Discussion and Solutions.

Francis, I would agree that there is little effort at punishing offenders by our “justice system” including those documented concrete instances that are brought to trial. This blog is my/our effort at suggesting that “WE, The People” Dare To Be Heard and EACH of us speaks out when we encounter racist’s behavior. Let’s become that undeniably active voice that speaks for US, that is heard and whose rightful demands must be accommodated. I further suggest, as will this blog in all of its postings that American Racism is NOT hiding in the closet but is and has become more overt, even fashionable, AGAIN. Francis, write your book, market it and help educate us all. Dare to Be Heard!

Chip, I thank you for your suggestion that we all take responsibility and speak up, out and to those that offend, without embarrassment. We feel embarrassed too often and our silence is mistaken for acceptance, even support. An old adage says something like, “If you are not a part of the solution, you are a part of the problem.” Please be a part of the solution. Dare To Be Heard!

This blog will feature, in week three, a letter that I wrote to an “offender,” one of my many doctors, about what I felt were racist “code phrases” he used in his propagandizing to me his beliefs about the “NEW” Republican Party.

I Dared To Be Heard to put him, at least, back into that closet. I forgot about being embarrassed by what he said. I responded. Every single one of us must!

Dare To Be Heard.

This week’s Discussion and Solutions page is the submission of a letter that I sent to one of my doctors who chose to have a conversation with me, in his office while treating me, about the platform/talking points of the “New” Republican Party that he found both interest in and support for. I did not. This was my “Solution” to his talking points/sound bites that I found ill -informed and offensive. I am submitting this as an example of a solution that we can all use as we encounter “racist” psycho- talk.

I must say that I left your office today with many more thoughts than I had entered it with. My thoughts mostly are about what I consider to be the “sound bites” of the Republican Party that you so eagerly shared with me. I am African American and by definition am repulsed by what they propose, tolerate and encourage in their platform, candidates and policies. All of the “moderate” Republicans were expelled in the last election so as to “cleanse “themselves of any humanity, tolerance, and/or compromise to their extremist platform. The Tea Party is synonymous with the Ku Klux Klan, for me. It wasn’t until a Black man became President of the United States that we heard a cry for “I want my country back.” No other Democratic President or Democratic sponsored policies has ever before elicited that chant.

I am responding to some of your “Sound Bites” from my experience in America in hopes of educating and familiarizing you with another perspective and set of eyes on the issues you spoke of.
1) You don’t believe in governmental interference as you believe America to be the touted “land of opportunity” for its people who can be/become whatever they dream of and work to be/become. The Land of Opportunity didn’t, by laws, design and by force, become that for me until I was 22 years of age and the Civil Rights Bill was enacted into law in 1968. The Constitution of this land still says that I am 3/5 of a person. There is still the Voting Rights Bill in place for African Americans, the only natural citizens in this country that need one to have the “opportunity” to vote for how they are treated, regarded and governed in this country. And that had an expiration date.

2) You stated your belief in the need for smaller government and a return to more local governmental control by each state for the governance of its residents. States’ Rights and Control means the return to segregation, discrimination and unequal education, housing and job opportunities. Look at which states are requesting it and threatening succession, largely Confederate states. They also comprise the majority of your RED states. They want their (white privileges) and country back. It was the large Federal government that sent in Federal troops to protect Black students sitting at restaurant counters, helping Black people to register to vote, allow little Black children to attend schools against the small local and state policing forces that were part and parcel with the Ku Klux Klan who were systematically attacking protestors for human rights with water hoses and dogs. States Right and Control would mean the end to the integration of schools, housing, jobs, etc. It was the large Federal government that put laws into effect, Affirmative Action, to require the hiring of Black people who were systematically not being hired regardless of their qualifications, credential, training and/or experience. States Right and Control was and would be again simply the GOOD OLE BOY NETWORK that still exists in too many venues. It is that Good Ole Boy network in the Republican Party that questioned(s) Obama’s citizenship and education STILL because they can’t believe that somehow they F – – – –D up and he got through all the obstacles they have placed in front of Black people to limit and prevent their success. Certainly he must be foreign because they wouldn’t have let that happen here in “their” America. His Presidency is their rallying call for the end of Affirmative Action. Oh Hell No, not ever again!!!

3) Bring the troops home is a convenient cry now for Republicans who sent them out everywhere during the impossibly long eight years of the Bush administration that spent billions on a non- issue, IRAQ. Now everyone is tired. Why didn’t Republicans get TIRED with Bush’s war mongering? If Obama brings home all the troops then the Republicans can complain about the escalating unemployment without ever acknowledging that it is a result of all the now unemployed military personnel they brought home without jobs. The economy also would falter and Obama could be further blamed for that as all the industries supplying the Armed forces would lose revenue, Obama’s fault. No Republican administration has ever brought home the troops, only Democratic ones, Wilson, Roosevelt, Johnson, Clinton and Obama. Why, because Republicans own the industries that supply the military. War is a billion dollar money making industry for them.

4) The Three Trillion Dollar deficit that you profusely complained about is a result of the about Two Trillion dollar deficit that Obama inherited from Bush who took about a Trillion dollar surplus during his impossibly long eight year tenure and turned it into about a two trillion dollar deficit to hand over to Obama. Then while Bush was still President he orchestrated the Recovery Act and had his Republican held Congress pass it on over to Obama to enact. Obama simply put in place what Bush and his people proposed and passed into law, as required by law. That increased the deficit further. It was NOT his legislation. He was a senator when it was proposed and voted on. Now Obama is expected to have cleaned up all the S- – -T created over eight years and was handed over to him by someone totally incompetent, except where it benefitted his friends and cohorts, in less than his three years in office.

No one has forgotten the past. No one has really forgotten Bush. I went to the inaugural. The loudest cheer all day was when Bush’s helicopter taking him away from the city, the capital, passed overhead. What a Relief!

I should say that I don’t believe in Sound Bites. They, by nature don’t require thought, evaluation or judgment. That’s why they are used for those who can’t, don’t or won’t engage in thought, evaluation or judgment. I find nothing “patriotic” by the chant “I want my country back,” as if it doesn’t belong to everybody who pays taxes here, equally. I had to tolerate Bush, who stole the election in 2000 in Florida with his brother’s and father’s subversive help. Obama was at least voted in by an overwhelming majority of the voting public and not as a result that was overturned by questionable chads and chaos.

I FEAR the new Republican Party and suggest that you should too. They have been infiltrated by those who preach Hate. I can see their white hoods. I hear their homophobic rants. I suspect their anti-Muslim rhetoric. How do you avoid seeing their swastikas? No matter what their platform, their policies, and/or their rhetoric may suggest, their membership speaks louder to me than any of those. I know who they are.
