Institutional Racism #3
By Darien Heard | December 16, 2011
Racism that is embedded in institutions as witnessed by the written policies, practices, expressions, and goals designed to “favor” one racial group over another.
I want to suggest that there are “CODES Of/For RACISM” used in this country knowingly and unknowingly. These codes are a manner in which the oppressor addresses the oppressed in a manner that signifies their disapproval of the oppressed. The oppressor uses these codes as if the oppressed couldn’t hear, see or read them.
How many can you remember or recite?
Words and Mumbles
Phrases and Sighs
Looks and Glances,
that together communicate Negro, Colored, Black, African American . . . do not hire.
We Negro, Colored, Black, African Americans know them well and have experienced them all.
You white, Caucasian, European Americans use them discriminately and indiscriminately as if
we, Negro, Colored Black, African Americans, were/are unaware.
